It’s spring, and you cant wait to get your boat back in the water. Not so fast…
BoatUS had an article recently, What’s Really in Your Marina Contract, that was very helpful. Many of us just sign these contracts thinking they are a standard stock contract without realizing that they have been modified and there can be potential negative impact.
Marina owners are now trying to shift more responsibility to slip holders. In some of the cases, it can void certain areas of your boat owner’s insurance, and in others, it can leave gaps that make you responsible.
The best piece of advice we absorbed from the article is that you can often negotiate some of the language in the contract prior to signing. Have your insurance agent review the contract before signing.
